Monarch Of The Glen Rewrite

The representational issue in this clip is age. We are presented with two oppositional worlds, divided by age. The youth is a character called Amy, who comes across in the clip as very privileged throughout the clip. The older generation is defined clearly through the character of the head teacher and the rest of the community. Finally the character Paul comes across as the ‘Mediator’ in the situation between the two age groups.
The Mise-en-Scene of the clip seems unnatural in respect of issues related to youth, the rural setting, mixed with the natural lighting and bland colours don’t mix when we are first introduced to Amy, her bright yellow top and high street, fashionable, jeans make her seem off in her surroundings; unlike before when the community was dressed in traditional farming clothing like, Barber jackets and Wellington boots. It is through this opposition that the audience is initially asked to empathize with Amy, when she speaks she comes across as being uncomfortable, but at this stage the audience is left wondering what she is uncomfortable about.
